Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
