Well, perhaps an Ashes series in Australia where they still have a chance to reclaim the urn following the initial matches.

This is not the case on this occasion, however, after a comprehensive 82-run win in Adelaide put the hosts leading three-nil for the fourth consecutive series on Australian grounds.

Instead, they have watched Australia defeat England convincingly in just 11 days from their residence in the north of England.

"People in the office has been teasing me regarding the concluded contest for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"Our expectation had been that we would have a meaningful contest upon our arrival."

Lowered Expectations

Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of ending their 15-year wait for a triumph on Australian soil prior to the first ball.

Yet now they are staring down the barrel of prolonging a streak without victory in the country to 19 matches when the Boxing Day Test begins in the MCG on Christmas Day.

The tourists - and their followers - will be keen to prevent a whitewash.

Alex said the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent times had "brought fresh energy to" the five-day game for English supporters.

Yet the fans said they had realistic outlooks for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are requesting from the players is "some resilience".

"All analysts points it out, but it all is about psychological strength. 'Bazball' has been become a phrase now that is just, like, unrealistic play," commented another sibling.

"During a long match, you should hunker down. Chasing balls 'sixth stump' areas has not been part of the fundamentals, and that is largely because of the batting lineup."

Looking Ahead

Prompted about he believed England will win a match in this contest, Sam said: "The evidence suggests the hosts are a stronger side right now."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that makes a significant contribution and produces a match-winning display."

Regardless of the result, the fans are anticipating the trip.

"It will be a wonderful trip regardless," added another sibling. "We have to go with that outlook."

"Of course, it's a let-down we aren't fighting for more, but we have invested a significant amount as it is."

"We plan to savor having Christmas and New Year out there. It is also a new experience for us away from home during the festive period."

A schoolteacher, Katie is intent on maximizing the 21,000-mile round-trip as part of her time off.

"Should the cricket disappoint, there's always golf to rely on," she finished.
