Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Gunfire Attack of National Football League Player Kris Boyd
A suspect has been indicted with attempted murder in connection with the shooting that wounded New York Jets football athlete Kris Boyd.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
The accused is a man from the Bronx, twenty years old. Law enforcement took him into custody on Monday, charged with and criminal possession of a weapon.
Details of the November Incident
The traumatic incident happened in the middle of the night of 16 November, near a busy New York City restaurant. Law enforcement described the event as a dispute with a unknown individuals.
Boyd, 29 years old, was accompanied by teammates and a third companion in a central part of New York City when the verbal confrontation escalated.
The situation turned into a altercation, during which police allege Green shot Boyd twice in the abdomen.
Severe Injuries and Recovery
The bullet hit Boyd's lung and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was transported to hospital in grave condition but was later discharged.
Reports indicate he has recently seen his teammates at a team training location.
Manhunt and Arrest in Another City
Surveillance video from the scene reportedly showed Green fleeing and getting into a vehicle driven by another person.
Authorities apprehended Green on 8 December in a city approximately 580km away, where he was found at his partner's residence.
A official announcement stated that "a person of interest" had been taken into custody.
When law enforcement surrounded the apartment complex, the suspect was seen "looking out the window searching for an escape avenue but went back in after seeing the team and a canine officer," the report noted.
The situation ended soon after, when the man exited the residence with his hands in the air.
The suspect had "altered his physical appearance probably to avoid detection," authorities commented.
Boyd's Career Background
Before joining the Jets this season, Boyd played the Arizona Cardinals over multiple seasons in the NFL.
The defensive player had been on injured reserve for the Jets after sustaining a shoulder injury during team practice in August.
