Over 36,000 people have escaped Sudan's Kordofan area eastern part of Darfur starting Saturday, as stated by the UN's migration organization.

The key central region connecting the country's Darfur regions and the Khartoum-Riverine area has during recent weeks become the latest battleground in the extended civil war between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary forces.

Significant Evacuation Statistics

An calculated 36,825 people escaped five districts in North Kordofan region between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The people, mainly traveling by foot, moved toward Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently housing more than 652,000 evacuated individuals.

Escalated Troop Concentration

Citizens of North Kordofan on Monday described a heavy surge in both RSF and army presence across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both forces are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a critical supply and command base that links Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," stated an RSF member in a recently circulated video message.

Regional Inhabitants Report Protection Issues

A resident of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, described that the amount of RSF vehicles had increased considerably since the group's capture of El Fasher.

"We discontinued traveling to our farms, concerned about fighting," the individual stated.

Another civilian, who requested anonymity for protection purposes, also reported that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.

Global Alarms and Calls

A senior UN official expressed concerns last week about "large-scale atrocities" and "ethnic-based retaliations" by RSF in Bara.

The representative cautioned about patterns comparable to patterns in Darfur, where RSF combatants have been accused of mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against certain racial groups.

The religious leader on Sunday appealed for an quick cessation of hostilities and the establishment of relief routes in Sudan, stating that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are creating unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the paramilitary group.

The representative further called on the international community to designate the group as a terrorist entity.
