New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”
Authorities released security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.
“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd did not participate this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
