Supporters Call for Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who breached a barrier and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was set to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a dual interpretation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, earning two for best costume and production design.
