The star has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 honor cash to the trust for venues, which operates to save the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

The star was presented with the prize on 16 October as his new release the album was named the best record of the past year.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots played in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported venues that were facing imminent closure due to issues stemming from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

Two years ago, they contributed their funds to the community center that supported their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year the group gave their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked artist Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had protected several grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the second in the city were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
