This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.
