The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
