Thousands Attend Initial Israeli Burial Ceremony Since Hostage Bodies Came Back
As Michel Illouz gradually progressed through the masses beneath the cypress trees and palm trees at the graveyard in Ra'anana, a urban center located approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, he thanked people to countless visitors as he could.
Earlier he provided an open call to the Israeli public to accompany his loved ones in honoring the memory of his 26-year-old son, Guy, whose remains had been repatriated from Gaza on Monday.
Substantial Gathering
Thousands responded the invitation. They lined the streets, processed behind the coffin transport carrying his mortal coil, and gathered at the burial site in such significant numbers that the original plan to conduct the ceremony indoors had to be discarded.
Rather, the gathering was organized outdoors, accompanied by the melody of avian melodies.
Significant Milestone
This represented the opening memorial service since the final two dozen captives came back from Gaza, accompanied by several deceased individuals. Another more than twenty of the deceased hostages are still unaccounted for, but at the very minimum this family now had a specific place to mourn and honor their son, according to friends.
Tragic Story
Guy Illouz, a performer and sound technician, had been struck from behind at the Nova concert event during the Hamas offensive on October 7, 2023. Before the tragedy unfolded, he had contacted his father from a concealed location to share his affection; to offer final words. He was seized, and according to those held with him, he later died from his injuries due to medical neglect.
Relative's Viewpoint
A trusted companion of the Illouz relatives, Michelle, fifty years old, commented that it had been vitally significant to them that people attended today. The Illouz household, comprising Guy's siblings and male sibling, had undertaken the traditional grieving process, the week-long period of mourning, after learning of his death in December of the previous year. But now that Guy was at long last back with them, they required "people around them again."
"My spirit is uplifted that you attended," said Michel. "Your presence is deeply appreciated."
Parent's Homage
He spoke to his son. "My dear Guy," he said, using a loving expression, "it's hard for me to imagine the time to come without you. They grabbed you from me – they murdered you – they kidnapped me and took my sense of self and destroyed my spirit and heart."
"I feel empty inside since that senseless shooting by those vicious attackers when they caught you and commanded you to turn around, and then simply fired two gratuitous rounds into your back."
Last Farewell
"Thus I stood this morning, traveling to Abu Kabir medical examiner's office to verify your remains and bid farewell. They took off the covering, and the primary view I saw was that familiar expression, that optimism, that peaceful presence and dignity that so defined you."
"I reached out, tried to sense your aroma, gently felt each part in your body. I saw you, I was by myself with you, and yes, I felt with complete conviction that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've come back home. You've returned to your relatives' care, to all your friends, and to the millions of citizens whose emotions your story touched."
Family Strength
In the initial segment of the service, Illouz had concentrated completely on supporting his younger children. He gently touched the locks of his girls, embraced his boy, demonstrated love and maintained composure for them. But then his feelings emerged.
Cherished Memories
"I will long for so much exploring alongside you through this country, feeling you, listening to your compositions, sitting in the hills and lighting the burner to prepare the beverage the way only you mastered – 'Dad, do you see the coffee foam? You have to simmer it carefully, let the foam rise, then heat it once more. Stir the coffee with rotating movements' – and then your grin while enjoying the drink and your pleasure in every particular taste."
"Earlier than my exit Abu Kabir today, I honored my word. I looked at you, breathed you in one ultimate occasion, and yes, I bestowed affection on the front of your head. I was could perceive your beauty even in the state in which you returned to us."
Ultimate Expression
"My Guy-shuk, I care for you deeply, I love you. I will long for you every instant and brief period of my existence. Find peace, my beloved son, rest after a journey of two years through unfamiliar realms to us. I love you, my dear Guy, my cherished eldest child."
